Yeah, we are similarly ill-prepared for a meteor-hits-earth scenario. Back when the term “dinosaur” was coined the evidence for a mass extinction caused by an extraterrestrial object crushing on our planet had not yet surfaced. In people’s minds, dinosaurs were to blame themselves for their demise. Surely, they must had some defects that made them gone extinct. They weren't intelligent enough or fit enough to survive. Thus, in popular culture dinosaurs quickly became a synonym for failure. Today we know that the extinction of the non-avian species was not the result of evolutionary incompetence, but rather the outcome of a cataclysmic environmental change. Despite this, we still associate them with failure.
